The Fringe Hours

From the Editor:
Ever get to the end of the day and realize you did nothing for you? In this practical and liberating book, Jessica N. Turner empowers you to take back the fringe hours--those little pockets of time you already have in your day--in order to make time for your passions and practice self-care. Based on original research, The Fringe Hours helps you overcome common hurdles that prevent women from taking time for themselves regularly. You'll also discover tips for maximizing the time you have and discover how living this lifestyle makes you a better wife, mother, and friend.
Manda's Thoughts: I read this book last winter and I am reading it again because I love the idea of using our time wisely to do the things that bring us joy, that fill us up, that help us flourish. People often ask me what I do for fun. Before I read this book I didn't have an answer to that question. What did I do for fun? Well, I thought my work was fun... I enjoyed snuggling with my dog... Man, I was boring. After reading this book last winter, I started grooming a friends horses because I used to love working with horses. I made the time to do something I loved and I have been filled by it. We will be using parts of this book as the basis for our Making It Work class this fall. If you want to get ahead of the curve you can get it now!

Making All Things New: Inaugurated Eschatology for the Life of the Church
Benjamin Gladd and Matthew Harmon

Picture
From the Editor:
Many people think eschatology refers to events occurring at the end of history. In this book, two scholars with expertise in biblical eschatology argue that God's kingdom breaking into this world through Jesus Christ has inaugurated a new creation, a reality that should shape pastoral leadership and be reflected in the life and ministry of the church. Brief and accessibly written, this book articulates the practical implications of G. K. Beale's New Testament Biblical Theology and features an introductory chapter by Beale. Each chapter concludes with practical suggestions and a list of books for further study.
Manda's Thoughts:
This book is thoughtfully written. The entire first section is written to help the reader gain an understanding of inaugurated eschatology. The authors readily acknowledge that their intended audience is pastors, however, I think most people would be able to understand the premise. If you are interested in learning more about the idea that we as Christians are currently living in the "Already- Not Yet" world this is a good book for you to begin with. And what is the "Already-Not Yet", you ask? Inaugurated Eschatology ("Already- Not Yet") means that when Christ died on the cross and rose again on Easter, he began the "latter days" as described by the Old Testament Prophets. Christ was the first of the new creation (new heaven and new earth) (Is. 65:17, 66:22) and when Christians are born again through faith and repentance, we too, become part of the new creation.
